Fathers' Day 2007
A tribute to fathers

Love you, Dad!

By Bernard Lim Kean Hyn

With our hearts, we thank God

for being our Creator ;

with our lips , we praise God

for giving us our father .

As perfect as God , dad may not be ,

still , as loving as mummy, is he ;

as gentle as mum, dad may not be ,

but , kind and generous is he .

Dad may not be the strongest man ,

yet , he still does the best he can ;

for the sake of the whole family ,

dad does all his work diligently .

Dad may not be the smartest man ,

but , give good ideas, he still can ;

it is never a big surprise

to hear dad giving sound advice .

As rich as Bill Gates , dad is not ,

yet , his onus , dad forgets not

as he strives to protect and provide ,

and in God's love , fervently abide .

Indeed , the love of a father

comes in many a flavour ;

a love unlike any other

that is blessed with God's favour .

With power from above ,

dad's love endures the test of time ;

with wisdom from above ,

his love resists the lures of crime .

Never too little , but so much –

the love of a father is such –

always going the extra mile

just to make us happy and smile .

Dad is the head we can look up to

when we seek guidance in what we do ;

his is the face , we can gaze into ,

like God and His children do .

Dad still sticks out his neck for us ,

even when we are at our worst ;

his are the shoulders , we can lean on

to give us support to carry on .

Dad's steady hands keep us warm and safe ,

especially when we are not brave ;

his are the legs that keep us moving

to keep us growing and improving .

Love and honour dad , we should always –

not just by saying , “I love you” ;

honour and love him , let us always

in all that we say , think and do.

“I love you , dad!” is what we should show

more than he can ever see or know –

not just on Father's Day ,

but each and every day .

H APPY F ATHER'S D AY , dad , I love you
come whatever may , you know it's true !
